The historical Tobacco Manufactory of Chiaravalle, from its establishment in 1759, has given important impetus to the development of the Marche region. It was the engine of the transition from the agricultural economy to the industrial one, and has seen the rise of the labour movement of the women cigar makers and of their social role, an example of feminine strength and working mothers.
MIT (Manifattura Italiana Tabacco) intends to stay on the traced path reaffirming the importance that the tobacco-growing continues to have in the national territory. It is done through revitalization projects of cultivation of local varieties of tobacco with revitalization of local crops, such as Montelupone in the region of Macerata, Bortigiadas e Perfugas in Sardinia, and through new master plans in Apulia, Campania, Umbria and Veneto (our tobacco-growing projects).
The goal of MIT is to recover the agricultural tradition and the productive excellency in the Italian industry of tobacco. This means for the company to maintain and work on the development of the territory. A development which passes through the enhancement of specificity.
